Bob,
I remember that feeling when I had my 71 police Ambo without a screen,
that feeling you would be blown right off the back of the bike at
highway speeds, holding on for dear life as your chest caught all that
wind because you are sitting straight up with those police bars and
floorboards underneath. I installed a Harley style screen on mine and
it worked great. National Cycle I believe was the brand. They make
different heights of screens, so you will have to find out which one
will allow you to look over the top. Cam has a screen on his now,
perhaps he can chime in and let you know what brand it is, how tall it
is, and if he can see over it. I think the brackets that hold the
screen also allow you to move it up or down to a desired height. My
Yahoo photos has pix of the 71 Ambo when I had her a few years back, you
can take a look at those pix to see if you like it and how it is
mounted.

My '73 Police Special had the Wixom fairing, but would cause bike to shudder at speeds above 50 or more. Took it off and now I almost get blown off at highway speeds, but no shudder. Still have the Police bars and floor boards, so I'm sitting straight up catching it all. Has anyone tried a screen, i.e. Memphis Shades type? Any opinions on what works for you. Would like as much air as possible but still want a relaxed ride at higher speeds and not feel like I'm holding on for dear life. Want something low, don't like looking through a wind shield. I'm 6'3" tall. BOB |
