When I timed the T3 the last (with a timing light) time I noticed the
timing was jumping around a bit, and I don't think it's the timing
chain, as it's got maybe 10,000 miles on it and has the later OEM spring
tensioner.
The bike felt a little odd as well, feeling flat off idle and then
getting noticably better at maybe 2500-3000 rpm (a recent sensation).
On of the little weights was a little sticky, and the gear on the end of
the distributor shaft had some play.
I cleaned and lubed all the weights and pivots and peened the pin that
holds the gear on with a center-punch. The play is gone, and I'll time
it with the light tomorrow after re-assembling and static-timing
tonight. I hope it goes back to feeling sweet.
btw, I have two spare 850 distributors, and both have loose gears as
well, one much worse than the other. Has anyone just swapped a T
distributor into a T3 (actually the motor in the T3 is a CX100 motor)?
