Cam, good for you. I own a BMW from a prior generation, a 67 R69S, which
is also know as a /2 bike, which were built from 1955-1969 virtually
unchanged. They are fabulous bikes. Parts are not a problem; it is only
a question of money. Here are a couple of tips to get you going. All of
the websites below have link pages taking you deeper into Beemerland.
Join the BMW group on yahoo.
Not sure who is in the NJ area, but here are 2 shops not too far away,
Barrington in NH, and Boxerworks in DC, both owners are tops in the
field with solid reputations. boxerworks.com, barringtonmotorworks.com.
For parts, Vech at Benchmarkworks in MS is tops, benchmarkworks.com. Ask
Vech if he has any customers (shops) in your area. Just use his regular
phone line (not the 800#) when you are calling to pick his brain. He is
the most generous guy I know with his knowledge.
If you need more info, just ping me off-line.
You'll enjoy the experience restoring the BMW.

I've just struck a "business deal" with a longtime friend that has a Beemer R 75/5 that's been in his shed for the last 10+ years wasting away. It'll take a total resto and a year or two, but what the hell. My question is What is the Beemer equivilant of MG Cycle/Classics for BMW parts? Local guys that specialize in the NJ area? Any help would be appreciated such as webs sites, moral support, etc. Aren't they very similar to the loops? Cam in NJ '74 Eldo Police |
