Hi Hacksaw,

I don't think the internal ratios were different and the two
transmissions should be directly interchangeable. The external linkage
was slightly different, but you can swap that out tit-for-tat. The
clutch input hubs were different on the earlist of v700 models
(different internal tooth depth pattern). You can use a later hub on a
earlier transmission, but not vice-versa. So, you should be okay there,
too. I can't think of any other differences, so - if functional - I'd
put a new set of seals in it and have a go with it. Actually, I'd shim
the shift drum, too...but that's not required. Just my over-eager
fix-everything-to-make-it-better mentality showing through :>

Greg,
Would the unit Tom has if functionally okay be a usable unit for my
Ambassarado?
Are the internal ratios different?
Thanks,
Hack

Hi Tom,

The early v700 and the Ambassador 4 speeds were different
internally...Actually, the 4 speed went through at least 3 iterations of

straight and helically cut gear combinations. You can probably swap
innards for innards, but just something to keep in mind.

Hacksaw, Where in Nebraska are you located? The tranny I have is off a

'67 V700. I have owned the "project" for about thirteen years. I got
it as a project, and never did anything with it. If it would make
sense, I could meet you half way with this tranny. My phone #'s are
316-773-6699 home, or 316-304-4477 cell. Or email me off list at
jtomel-@netscape.com if interested.
