Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear of the leak - always frustrating. Here are my thoughts:

- Check to be sure there isn't a crack or something else that is causing
the leak. Oil can move about in weird ways sometimes and it can be very
difficult to find the true source, especially with clean fresh oil.
- make sure the mating surfaces (both on the block and on the switch)
look good. If suspect, clean them up a bit.
- as for torque, since we are dealing with a 12 mm x 1.5 mm steel switch
screwing into an aluminum block, I would do it up to a MAX of about 29
foot pounds. At least, that is the best I can extract from the torque
specs I have on my website??? Since this is a sensitive area, I'd start
off low and go up in small increments. As always (and I'm sure you know
this) be sure to inspect the threads in the block and be super-careful
not to strip them out.

Hi, all. I am frustrated by an oil leak at my oil
pressure sensor. I had the sensor out, and when I put
it back in using the same crush washer it started to
leak. I put some thread tape on it but the leak
persisted, so I bought a nice copper BMW crush washer
from Spare Parts, but it still leaked! I was
surprised. I thought perhaps the oil was leaking
THROUGH the sensor, so I bought a new sensor and
aluminum crush washer from MG Cycle. I installed the
new one with thread tape as well as the crush washer.
It didn't leak for about 25 miles, but now is leaking
worse then ever. I don't know what torque the sensor
is supposed to be tightened to, but I feel that if I
make it any tighter then I currently have it I will
strip out the hole. This is such a simple thing: why
am I having so much trouble?
