Hi Paul,
I'd be inclined to add the thrust bearing back into the mix. If memory
serves, I think the Eldo 5-speed simply used a stack of three washers
whereas the 850T 5-speed used and actual needle-thrust bearing.

Ok folks, here's a nice one. Pulled my tranny today to give it some nice new seals and o-rings etc and after disassembly found there wasn't a thrust bearing/washer pack on the end of my main shaft or even a bronze washer! Interesting part is the tranny shifts perfectly fine with no grinding or whining throughout all gears. Should I leave it like it is or get a new thrust bearing/washer pack along with some shims? I did notice it also had the original style shift return spring, so while I'm in there it WILL be changed out for the updated one. Paul |
