Look at the pinion carrier from the front side. "Should" be two little
notches at about the 2:00 and 8:00 positions that expose a bit of
bearing. Even my V700 carrier has 'em (that doesn't mean yours will,
though).
What sorta shocks you running?
Got the rear drive off, there are no notches or flat spots anywhere on the pinion or the swingarm. Pinion is perfectly round (the part that fits into the rear drive, and the swingarm is round also, no 1/2 moon looking notches. I did notice that the PO did not install a paper gasket between the swingarm and pinion, which is probably the reason it was weeping a little bit at that spot. I checked the trans fluid level and it was perfect, rear drive fluid level was low again (I topped it off during the ride to the National as it was low when I found the driveshaft boot leaking, and it was low again today after the 400 mile ride home this weekend). Can't figure out why the oil is migrating so much, but as long as the new boot keeps the fluid from leaking out all over my rear tire, I will be happy. Next up, remove the swingarm and install the new boot (when the parts arrive). Keith Ruff 70 Cafe Racer Ambo Manahawkin, NJ Greg Field wrote:
