If I'm at, say 70 mph (indicated) 4200-4300 rpm in 5th, on the
interstate, I'll grab a handfull of throttle and about 10 seconds later
I'll see 4500/4600 rpm - lots of intake noise but no punch. It acts like

it's over loaded, like it's geared way too tall(all stock), or it falls
off it's torque curve at 4500 rpm. It will slow down noticably on easy
interstate grades which require a significant increase in throttle to
maintain speed - can't imagine what it would be like with a passenger!

My V7 does the sme thing. A lot of midrange punch, but none in the top
end. Since I have no tach, it is hard to tell where my RPM's are. When I
am in 5th gear and want to get a little more "juice," I drop to 4th and
wack it. I use 5th as an overdrive. Get it up to the speed that I want
and shift to 5th and just let it idle along. I am really pleased with
the bike. It seems pretty quick in 2,3 and 4th for a heavy, 36 year old
bike. But a real dog sometimes taking off in 1st. Have to slip the
clutch a little to get a quick boost.

If I want to realy boogie, I use my CB750 or GT500.
