Sounds like you need a Convert tranny. That is one of the things that I
think the auto trans does really well. Just whack open the throttle, and
it winds up and goes.

I think Megacycle makes cams for Guzzis, but they're pretty proud of them too, like in the $350 arena. I've been riding and building bikes for quite some time - Nortons, Ducatis, BMWs, and now Guzzis. My loop Junkyard (850T powered Ambo)is the first loop I've owned, but I rode a '74 LAPD from St Louis out to Mid-Ohio a couple years ago. I also had a '73 V7 Sport for a few years. I think I'm qualified to make this statement... These old Guzzis are dogs, especially on the top end! Both my 750 Norton & my R75/2 Conversion will eat Junkyard alive on a top gear roll-on; my V7 Sport was the same way. If I'm at, say 70 mph (indicated) 4200-4300 rpm in 5th, on the interstate, I'll grab a handfull of throttle and about 10 seconds later I'll see 4500/4600 rpm - lots of intake noise but no punch. It acts like it's over loaded, like it's geared way too tall(all stock), or it falls off it's torque curve at 4500 rpm. It will slow down noticably on easy interstate grades which require a significant increase in throttle to maintain speed - can't imagine what it would be like with a passenger! I recently added a windshield (barn door) which has made it a bit worse but not much. I've done all the easy stuff by the book-valves are adjusted, timing is set, carbs are jetted, plug chops, K & Ns, intake stacks, stock and modified exhaust, etc. It compares to the other older Guzzis I've ridden/owned/run with. At Mid-Ohio last year I rode with Corntown from Indy to Ohio and and a third loop back & forth to the track. Naturally there were times when we whacked open the throttles to see who was faster, and I wasn't ever last. I've even tried the weight loss aproach (presently down 20 lbs) with no discernable improvement, bike or phisique! That's just all there is, and it sucks! On the positive, it is the smoothest riding bike I have ever owned, and I absolutely love the looks and the design. I'm not ready to walk away yet. So what to do? I want more power, especially more torque in the 4000/6000 rpm range. Where to look? Bigger bore, carbs/intake, the heads, the exhaust, the camshaft, and the ingition curve. I want to build an engine that runs! Of course, I need to start this process by putting what I have on a dyno to see what's there. I'm afraid it won't be too impressive. I would like to start a thread on performance. Please feel free to participate. Let us know what your experiences are, any tuning secrets, sources for go-fast parts, etc. Sure beats talking about the pie you ate at the hole-in-the-wall diner you stopped at on your ride to the rally. Not trying to insult anybody, just trying to get some answers, which I believe are hiding here on the list. There is more experience here than any other place I have access to. Thanks for your time!
