Bruce, can Keith also apply two nuts to the top of the stud, tighten them
together and then use a wrench on the bottom nut to back the stud out??

Keith,
One way to that stud out that might work, is to weld a nut to the
top of the stud. The ID of the nut needs to match the OD of the stud for
easy welding. Then use a hand impact driver with the appropriate socket on
it to back it out. I've used this method to remove manifold studs on an
Alfa alloy head once when double-nutting sheared them off. I went thru a
bunch off nuts to get some of them off.
My Ez-outs have been relegated to my Museum of Tools Not To Use Ever
Again. I've never had one of them work for me. I'd rather drill out the
stud instead...which has it's own risks.

How much of the bolt is still sticking out of the threads? I take it you
removed the generator and the bracket already. Soak it real good with PB
Blaster and let sit for a few hours. If there is some threads still sticking
up, is there enough that you can clamp a vise grip to? If so you can try
clamping the vise grip to the remaining threads as tight as you can possible
squeeze the handles together and try backing it out that way. Be sure to
clamp the vice grip standing on it's nose to the bolt. Also give the bolt a
few taps with a hammer to help loosen it up a bit. Main thing is to stay
calm as getting frustrated with only make matters worse. You could always
take it over to a machine shop and have them remove it for you. Good luck.

Took a nice ride with Cam, Bill Dudley and his wife (?) Kate yesterday,
about 150 mile shakedown run. Ambo handled great and ran very nice.
Pulled up to my driveway and heard a clacking noise. Looked under the
tank and saw the generator rattling around. Crap. Took the bike apart
and found that the head of the rear most bracket bolt had sheared off.
Got some reverse bits and easy outs from Cam and went to work this
morning. Got the 1/8" reverse bit to enter the center of the bolt, then
tried an easy out. It grabbed, then snap! S@$T!!!! Now I'm screwed.
Been trying ever since to drill out whatever I can with thoughts of
retapping the aluminum block, but in the process, the 1/8" drill bit
also decided to leave it's remains in the bolt also. Now I have no idea
what to do. Has anybody else had this problem and what did you do to
fix it? Will Greg Fields Alternator conversion work? Does it need that
rear bolt also? If yes, I'm screwed again. Damn, tha National is only
1.5 weeks away and it ain't looking good.
