On the left sode of the tranny, there'll be what looks like a big bolt
head with a hole in the middle or a bolt head with a hose nipple. Under
that is a spring that loads a plunger that indexes with notches in the
shift drum when you shift gears.
Pull the bolt head thing and spring and pull out the plunger with a
small screwdriver or whatever works.
It will have a semicircular shape to its tip. File or grind the tip to
a flatter profile (or pay $60 for the updated plunger). This makes it
so that it doesn't stick as deeply into the notches in the shift drum.
This reduces shifting effort.
I know nothing about the shift offset brackets, so someone else will
have to answer that one.

What exactly is a detent plunger? (if its in the manual I'll look it up when I get home) And, as Greg B. pointed out I already removed my offset shift adjuster, is there a way to reinsert it and adjust it without opening the transmission? Ted ----- Original Message ----- From: "Greg Field" <gre-@gregfield.com> To: <Loopfram-@topica.com> The best way to remove that nut is with a 27mm deep, thinwall socket and a rattle gun, either air or electric. Electric ones can be gotten from Harbor Freight for about $30 on sale. With a rattle gun, you do not need to hold the input. For some reason, a lot of these 5-speeds have been grenading in Seattle lately, so I've been getting lots of experience at this. As for shimming, it works but is not worth a teardown just for it. More effective and simpler is to pull out the detent plunger and flatten the profile of the tip. GF
