Ah Joe, you're right! I have been contemplating that Guzziology section
on adding an oil filter to the Ambo. And, since I have one of the
relatively rare late Ambo cases (looks real close to an Eldo), it should
be very doable.
I just went out to the garage and compared pan gaskets between my Ambo
and my Quota...same bolt pattern! I forgot I had them available to make
the comparision. Looks like a normal extension - like the one from
MG...with a little cutting and filing, would do the trick just fine.
But, I think Skip and I are going to get together and see what we can do
with his extra oil pan, first. It'll be a fun exercise, anyway, and I
bet we can figure it out and make it work just fine.
But, I can't give up the 4 speed...I just love it too much! And, that
makes the RAM clutch a non-option. (or at least it would require a
machinist to custom make an input hub). I really do want to keep the
spirit of the Ambassador with regard to displacement, transmission, rear
end gearing, etc.
But, oh, the possibilities!

Greg, I'd bet dollars to a donut that the bolt pattern is identical between a Loop & Tonti sump. You know where this is leading you - towards the modification of your lube system to take a late 850T/T3 sump & filter assembly, as per Guzziology. Then you could fit a Tonti sump extender. You're just the man for this mod! Go ahead, Get R Done! What might be easier is to find a T3 (or LeMans!!!)engine to start building up to replace the Ambo engine. Of course, you'll need a 5 speed, a Ram clutch, and a disc brake front end to slow that puppy down. Speaking of Swapmeet Friday, I'd like to scare up a 1000cc Tonti core to build up, a runner, or a wrecked bike. I've got stuff to trade (4 speeds, a v700 basket, some Tonti bits).
