Funny- I have a Bingham sidecar also. It came with the funky little
wheel and I put a Guzzi rim on it to match my bike, like you did. To
lower the car back to normal, I bolted an extension on the shock mount
at the bottom- just two flat plates that dropped the lower shock mount
about 2 inches. I suppose you could also look for a shorter shock?
