Hi Brian,
My crusty, trusty '70 220D Mercedes has a little problem with the
odometer that sometimes causes something inside to slip when it has to
roll over a big number (such as 60,000 from 59,999). It'll do it just
rolling over smaller numbers occasionally. Nearly made me have a heart
attack when the mileage dropped from 34 mpg to 24 mpg! Maybe something
similar is happening? Cheers,

I just completed a 1000 mile ride this weekend on the '74 LAPD and noticed something really strange with my fuel use- for the first 500 miles or so I believe I was getting 42mpg- then on my way home, it dropped to around 28mpg- I have not been tracking it too much around town the last few months, but from my last longer trip I remember it being around 40mpg (which seems about the same for most of the loopframes I have owned) So I can't figure out what caused the sudden drop- because the bike is running exactly the same as it was before as far as I can tell. I checked the tire pressure and I didn't add anything to my bike during the trip like luggage or anything (but I doubt it would have that much of an effect). There was no change in altitude during the trip and I was driving the same speeds during the whole trip. Does not seem to be leaking gas anywhere either. WTF???? Any suggestions appreciated, |
Charlie
