Hi Mark,
Best is just to try the new cable and see what happens.
As far as replacement is concerned, it's pretty straight forward. The
only thing you have to be careful of is if you remove the speedometer
worm gear from the transmission itself (there are a couple of washers
that you need to keep track of. But, you can replace the cable without
removing the worm gear...just loosen the knurled nut at the transmission
end without loosening the hex portion. If this is as clear as mud, let
me know and I'll take a couple of pics.

howdy folks, reasonably new looper here. i introduced myself a few months ago... i've got a few issues i'll be tackling on the ambo over the next few weeks/months, but i'll start off with the (hopefully) easy one first. how can one tell if the speedometer itself has gone bad, or if it's just the cable? the symptoms, as best i can describe them, are that the needle appears to have some input relative to speed, but is only proportional up to about 40mph, and at all times fluctuates wildly (by about 40-60% of the guage) now, if it is the cable, i've purchased a new cable and housing, etc. are there any little things i need to be careful of when i replace it? i seem to remember hearing there were some small parts that could get lost in bad places if one is not vigilant... thanks for any help, off list or on. -mark arrington marr-@hotmail.com 1971 ambassador 1991 ducati 907ie |
