Here's my story about an XS750: My wife worked with a woman whose
husband passed away and left behind an XS750 and a new spare engine on
the shelf. It turned out that he crashed the bike, bought a brand new
one (6 years old) that had been sitting around at some dealer's, put the
old engine from the crashed bike in the new bike and put the new engine
on the shelf.
I bought everything for a pittance since she didn't want her son
riding it (motorcycles are so dangerous!). I got the bike running as is,
put the original new engine back in the frame (now the numbers matched)
and sold the old engine to a woman in the service in Germany who was on
the Yamaha triples list and sold the bike to some weird guy who was the
only one to answer my ad. I had to deliver the bike, but his check was
good. The original triple exhaust system is hard to find and expensive,
I stumbled across a 3-into-1 for cheap and went with that.
It was an interesting bike, I only rode it around for some test
rides. It does have a following of dedicated enthusiasts, you can go
here and scroll down to the ytriples info near the bottom and sign up
for the forum, if it's still valid, I haven't been there for years.
