Hey guys, Ian sent me this quite a while ago, I just got around to putting
the distributor in (thanks Joe Jump for the good used clutch plates) and am
not having much luck in getting the bike to sound like it wants to start. Is
there anything amiss here?
Also is there an easy way to determine if a cylinder is on its compression
stroke without removing the valve cover?
Thanks
Ted

You can install the dist eaily enough. Guzziology has a good description of
how to do it but you basically have to make sure the left hand cylinder is
at TDC on the compression stroke and then insert the dist shaft so that the
cam lobe is just at the point of opening the points. Remember that you have
to be on the right cam lobe as there are two of them. I think the contact on
rotor should point at 6 o'clock...downwards? Also...be sure that the dist
adjusting bolt is in the middle of the adjustment range.
