Hi Ray,

As I'm sure you know, a good starting point is with bottom edge of the
pinion gear aligning with the outside edge of the crown wheel. An 1/8"
is a bit much, but are you sure you have the thick shims under the head
of the pinion gear? They are much thicker than the shims that go between
the pinion bearings.

The Eldo parts books says you may need the following quantities in that
position (not total, I'm sure, but a combination):

1 - 17: .1 mm (shared as a pinion bearing shim)
6 - 14: .15 mm (shared as a pinion bearing shim)
1 - 2: 1 mm
1 - 2: 1.2 mm
1 - 2: 1.5 mm
