And, no need for anyone to inform me more on point vs. dyna. I get it.
Thanks. Bob

I think the key word is "supposed". I ran Dyna on my G5 because the dist
was so damn hard to get to. Thank your favorite deity for Ford dist
wrenches but still a real bitch. I had 2 Dynas do the mysterious but oh
so sudden and complete death on that bike. I sent them both to Dyna with
requests for diagnosis and helpful suggestions. Each time they sent back
a new unit, no charge, no explanation. Very disatisfying. If the
manufacturer thinks it is a throwaway, what conclusion do I come to? I
ended up carrying the 2nd one in the bags as a spare part. Silly. I
don't see the point in worrying over this on my loop.
I think the deal is that electronic ignition is a lot hotter spark but
not necessarily reliable. Certainly not very fixable on the road, other
than errant wires or adjusting magnets. I've run a Pertronics unit on my
VW with zero troubles and the Electra Glide runs beautifully. The Boyer
ran great on the bsa chop. Makes me suspect something in the Dyna line.

David, Maybe I missed a thread on this topic but I though electronic ignition was supposed to be more reliable than points. What happened? I am glad I managed to get the bike back home on one pot because this is no easy roadside fix. The bike is a '75 Eldo with a '77 SP motor. I have two sets of points and two coils already installed but I don't want to put the condensers in the stock location. Instead of hanging them off the distributor I want to put them up by the coil. I am assuming it doesn't matter where they are as long as they have a good ground. Please let me know, right or wrong. My younger brother made me an mp3 cd to listen to in the garage so I was wrenching to the '80s alternative sounds of Echo and the Bunnymen, The Stranglers, The Fleshtones, Psychedelic Furs and the Hoodoo Gurus.
