I had a type 3 also, loved it, drove it for years with many sharp metal pieces protruding after an uninsured, unlicensed, illegal immigrant (aka "mojado") ran a stop light and T-Boned me. No government controls or inspections here in what many like to refer to as the "third world state" of New Mexico. The type 3 eventually died crossing the Mojave Desert when, as a delayed result of the accident, bolts holding the shroud that directed fan air over the cylinders broke while I drove it through the 100+ degree heat (no temp gauge of course) until the engine seized. . loop content, I'm going through everyone's suggestions about my Eldo that started then stopped and wont run. Working between actual paying work, dogs, kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and bicycles. should be ready to try it again next weekend when I will report the results.

Here in Pennsylvania, for inspections, you can't shave any sharp metals edges exposed and the frame has to be sound, and all the lights have to work, or else it won't pass.....so the alternative is to go to what we call a "lick'em-stick'em" shop where, for a few extra bucks, they'll pass anything. You will not see, as I have in other states, cars going down the road without fenders and such, in Pennsylvania...if it's (the car) too bad, a cop will pull you over and give you a spot inspection, and that depends on how bad he wants to be a prick. Emissions inspection is a whole other story............................
