Isn't hot/cold oil more of a destroyer of seals than a few years? I'd say
that you never know how old a seal you receive from a vendor might be? Look
how old a 'new' tire can be when you buy them?
I say go with the seals that you've already installed.

Hi Paul,
I cannot give you a certain time frame. But, if it were me, I'd go ahead
and replace them before the install. It's just too much work to get back
in there again for a leaky seal. On the other hand, if you were talking
about rear drive seals, I'd say go ahead and run it and see if it's not
okay...getting to those is no big deal.

How long is it safe to leave new seals in before part is put into operation. Reason being is I rebuilt my other 5 speed at least 2 1/2 years ago and it's been sitting on the shelf since. I'm ready to rebuild my projects rear drive and don't want to waste the seals either. Paul 73 Eldo "Elvira" 949 conversion 74 Eldo "Daisy" undergoing a full police restoration |
