i did realize this also, when you posted the pics of the valves, that
you weren't planning on pulling the crank. it would be easier to do it
now, then in 2 years down the road...and the pic of one cylinder bore
showed some pretty obvious damage to the chrome, which inevitably will
end up in your bottom end, hopefully in the screen, but very possibly in
a crank bearing.....it's cheap insurance to go in and actually pull
it...bummer that you already cleaned your cases, as it would have been
much easier with the block empty...

If you do, look to see if there are little bright flacks of metal in the duller looking babbitt. My original chrome bores flaked and put alot of tiny chrome flakes into the oil system. Maybe post some close-ups of the shells on your site. My big ends were in bad shape, but the crank was still OK. The sludge trap was almost full (if you didn't know, this is located on the rear of the crank, the crank must be removed to service) If this is full, you might have issues with oil distribution. Have you checked the rocker spindles to see if the oil passages were clogged? Mine were partially clogged with the same particles and some galling was seen on the spindle and bushings. I read that you wouldn't be pulling the crank, and just thought to warn that if you got the bike without knowing the exact mileage or service record, checking these things would be a good idea Your free subscription is supported by today's sponsor: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Like music?
