Hey All,
Would be interesting to note where the majority of failures occur. Most, from my observations, occur at the lever end. The cable end cannot move in its recess as the lever rotates and eventually strains the cable to failure (sort of like bending a paper clip back and forth until it breaks). With the exception of the thin cables that were found on early Loops most cables will last forever if properly taken care of.
Regards...Ian

I once rode with some friends to West Va. rally. Sunday morning, loading up to ride home, One of the guys pulled the hydraulic clutch on his Ducati & it went right to the bar. Had it been a cable clutch, we could have rigged something (even on a Duc.), but nothing could be done W/the hydraulics & he had to "crash box" shift his bike 420 miles home to Lynchburg VA. I learned the lesson about spare cables by breaking the clutch cable on my old Ambo about 50 miles from home. I switched the front brake cable to the clutch. The ride home was "exciting" (right hand clutch & no front brake) but hey, I got home without having to call for help.
