You can connect it to either spot, doesn't really matter. My last GP S lasted 1 week past the 1yr warranty. Then it totally fused the contacts together on the D+ side. I did read somewhere that a loose gen belt can slip at high rpm and cause the gen to put out a higher output that could fry the contacts.

Ah...I've been running the juice to the idiot light directly from the D+
terminal on the generator itself. I take it then, Paul, that you've used
the GP Sorenson with Bosch Generator? Have you had good luck with it?

Greg,

Actually 5 wires in total. The connections on the GP Sorenson are as
follows
when mounted to the bike:

1. (D- or ground) Bottom left corner.
2. (D+) Post above ground.
3. (DF) Top left corner.
4. (51B+) Top right two connectors together, one to the battery & one to
the
starter relay (30)
5. Bottom right would go to your idiot light. It connects to the D+ on
the
bottom.

Hi Paul,

For the life of me I can't figure out how to connect those single wire
regulators to our generators, either! It seems to me that our generators

require four connection points: (1) Ground, (2) Battery, (3) Wire to DF
on generator, (4) Wire to D+ on generator.

I did pick up a GP Sorenson regulator from Advance Auto a couple nights
ago. It has lot's of connections and looks like it will work just fine.
But, it is still mechanical as opposed to solid state. I haven't gotten
around to installing it, but I plan to this weekend. So, hopefully, I'll

have some happy news to report.

There was no way I was going to be able to sand paper those bad boys!
There
was even an arc mark on the side of the cover. Does anyone here really
understand the workings of a regulator? I bought a new one anyway and
replaced it, that way I can always keep the old one as an emergency
roadside
repair part. The B+ connections were a little loose, but doubt that had
anything to do with it. I also bought one of the MPEVR32SB ($13.99)
regulators that Greg has listed on his site, but for the life of me
can't
figure out how to hook the generator to it. It only has a connection on
one
side marked "FLD" and the other side is blank. Jason will check his this
weekend and give me an answer then.

Paul and Bob, My regulator was bad once, or so I thought. I went out
and
bought a Ford Falcon regulator and when I was about to install it I
thought
about opening up the old one and checking it out inside (or maybe I
didn't
think this up maybe someone from this list told me). Anyway, turned out

the
points needed a little shining up. Did that with 300 grit paper, put
her
back in and she ran nice. Took the Falcom reg. back and saved a whole
$7!

Bob,

I did my ground the same as you, straight to the battery negative
post.
I
checked my regulator against another old one and it gives the same
readings.
I even pulled the cover off it and nothing was welded together. Bikes
been
running fine for a year already.

Paul,

I posted a similar problem a few pages back. My light came on, new
regulator, and I could tap the regulator and it would go back off.
Finally, 100+ miles, the light would not go back off. Took off the
regulator cover and the NO(normally open contacts on the dual contact
coil had welded closed). This is the same problem I found in the old
regulator. Have you taken the cover off the regulator yet? If not take a

look, a new one may not solve the problem. I just got a reply from
another rider and he mentioned his problem was a bad ground on the
regulator. Mine is tied directly to my negative battery post so that is
not my problem, but maybe another bad wire connection somewhere. I'm
going to check my generator and clean all the contacts and replace the
wires going up to the gen and see what happens. Let me know if you find
a definite problem/fix for your generator. Good Luck.

Ok folks, took a ride to the gas station last night and on the way
back the
generator light came on and won't go off. Put a meter on the battery and
revved it up and no change in voltage. Hooked meter directly to the D+ &

DF
on my Bosch generator and revved it up and got 0 voltage. Is this
right?

If
I check on the regulator from D+ to DF I get a short. Is this right?
I pulled the generator apart and checked everything and the brushes
are new and move freely. I measured across the D+ & DF and got
4.8ohms. This according to Guzziology indicated that my field coils
are still fine. No reading would indicate burnt out field coils. I
checked another generator I
have and it read the same (not sure on condition or operatability of
this
unit). I will pick up another regulator tomorrow and compare its
readings to
the one I have installed. Any other suggestions?
