Hi Rich,
The 2nd edition V700 manual has the best and only correct illustration I
have. The order it shows is: fiber washer, tab washer (w/tabs towards
the end cap), washer (your shims?), spring. From what I remember that's
the assembly order in the few I've had apart as well. I can check to
make sure tomorrow evening if needed. Cheers,

I want to be sure they go back the way they came out. These consist of a fiber (insulating) washer, three shim washers and a large washer with three tabs bent at about a 30 degree angle. What order from the windings up do these go in? And the washer with the tabs, do they bend towards the end cap or towards the windings.
