That's what I needed to know.
Thanks Greg. Didn't realize that U Joint was loose in there.

Hi Ted,
There should be two clamps that hold the drive shaft boot in place. One
clamp is on the transmission side and one clamp is on the swingarm side.
Remove (or at least loosen) these two clamps. Now, you should be able to
move the boot to one side or the other (you may need to gently pry it
away from it's matting surface). Now, what you see under the boot is the
U-Joint. It is not held in place by anything other than a bearing on the
swing arm side and the transmission on the transmission side...it should
freely slide off of the splines on the transmission side. To do this,
though, you'll have to move the engine/transmission as far forward in
the frame as possible (just put blocks under the engine to keep it from
dropping).
Alternatively, keep the engine and tranmssion in place...you can even
keep the front engine bolt on. And, just remove the swing arm as
described by Greg Field and Mark Etheridge in previous posts.
Hope this makes sense.

Okay, I have the engine loose, the battery tray out. I just need to know, where I disconnect the motor from the rear wheel. The motor bell housing bolts to the tranny. The tranny bolts (via hex key bolts) to a slim item that is connected to the drive shaft boot which is connected to the swingarm. What do I need to unbolt to be able to pull the motor so I can replace the clutch? Thanks, sorry if I'm sounding dense. Ted Ward |
