Charlie/others in the know
are the VHB29s a bolt on replacement for the SS1s on a V700? I assume
they will fit, but does the V700 'prefer' a different size jet or
different needle in the VHB29s? Just curious.

Bob, Your "round slide" carbs are SS1 29s. My '69 Ambo came with them also (as did most if not all of the first series Ambos). Most owners changed them out for the VHB29s early on. Besides leaking, I don't think the SS1s meter as well. The one on the Falcone leaks just a bit during starting then stops, but cold or hot it sneezes, pops and hiccups at various throttle settings. From what I've read (Moto Guzzi Big Twins by Greg Field) and seen at various meets, the Amals were installed on mid '73 production date machines and most with the Amals also had four-leading-shoe front brakes. I have a set of each variation from the "norm" to play with if I ever get tired of having carbs that work properly. Cheers, Charlie http://members.tripod.com/charlesmullendore/index.htm Gavin wrote:
