If you should ever need to remove the cables from the splitter, unscrew
the end caps from the tubular part (a piece of leather or rubber around
the end cap will prevent scarring) with some adjustable pliers or
similar. Then unhook the cables from the slots in the small slide
inside. A bit of lube on the slide during reassembly is a good idea.

This is just one screw and the plunger will come right out. There is no
need to remove the cable from the splitter at all. The splitter I was
refering to in my previous post was the one from the petcocks.

All you need to do is remove the 2 screws at the top of the carb where
the cable goes in and the whole slide, carb top, cable and spring will
come out as one unit. Remember which way the slide comes out. The carb
top can only go on one way correctly. Depending on which carb is being
removed, you will see the hose coming down from the splitter to a
banjo fitting on the side of the carb. Just remove the bolt (10mm)
holding it in place and the carb is almost off. Next step is to loosen
the bolt on the clamp that holds the carb onto the manifold. Once you
have this loose, then you can twist the carb back and forth to remove
it from the manifold.

ok, i'm sure an easy question. I need to rebuild one of my carbs, I
took a quick look today and I can see you have to remove it with the
cables on it, it wasn't obvious how they come off the splitter (or
whatever it's called) under the gas tank. it doesn't seem to be
mentioned in either of my repair manuals. thanks for the help
