I see you've had all the good answers about your tach, but before
you start tearing into it or send it away, remember that it's an
electronic tach. Check your wiring diagram, you might poke around the
wiring that goes to it to look for anything suspicious like a frayed or
pinched wire or similar. Hope it's something simple.
