Hi, Greg..
Well, airplane guy talkin here, but 220 f is about redline on most air
cooled engines. They *can* run for extended periods at these temps, but
I've gotta wonder why an over cooled Guzzi is getting hot. :(
A leak down test would take the guesswork out of whether it's blowby, or
bearings..
If the extended sump gives you an extra quart of oil, it sure couldn't hurt.
If it were me, I'd go to the Nats, and try to not worry about it until I
got back. The synthetic isn't going to break down at these temps. Maybe
take off the oil temp and pressure guages?? :)
Cheers!

Since it's warmed up aroundd here, my Eldo's been losing oil presssure
when fully hot. It goes right up to pop-off pressure of 60 psi when cold
but slowly drops as the oil heats up to 37 psi at 80 mph on the freeway,
when fully hot. That doesn't seem like a safe pressure to me. Any
opinions on this, given that I need to ride it to the National in two
weeks, through some ferly hot country?

Stuck one of those thermometer dipsticks in there today, and it hit 105
C after less than 10 miles on the freeway. That seems kinda high, so I'm
wondering if the crux of the problem is excessive oil temp, rather than
excessive clearance in one of my bearings. Everytime I've seen heat
problems before, they were caused by excessive blow-by and consequent
oil puking out the breather. This Eldo does not drip or puke oil out the
breather, even after extended runs of 85-90 mph, so I can't believe it's
blowby.

Anyone have any ideas? Running 20-50 AMSOIL.

Now, I put the extended sump from my LeMans on there and hope to get out
for a ride in an hour or so to see if that makes any difference. I also
changed out the pop-off valve for a known good one.
