Hi Vince,
Hopefully your wheel will come apart easier than the one for my '71. On
it the spokes were corroded into the hub and were a real bear to remove.
Ended up destroying half of them in the process. May not be a bad idea
to use a good penetrating oil such as "Kroil" to soak the spoke/hub
junction for a while before the anticipated disassembly day.
By comparison, reassembly was quite easy. I used new s.s. spokes and
nipples from Buchanan's and they sent along two bottles of lube
("cutting oil") for the threads with the direction to lube generously.
Not sure if this as much of a concern with stock spokes and nipples,
since one is stainless and the other nickle-plated brass. Probably
wouldn't hurt to lube with a light oil during reassembly though. Cheers,
Charlie

I just bought a new rim for my rear wheel and hope to replace my old bent one shortly. I've never done this before and I was wondering if any list members have any advice regarding how to proceed and if there are any special things to do or to avoid. I'm using the old hub and spokes, they seem to be in good condition. |
