That's an excellent idea, but my money's on a loose timing chain. If it
has Amal's, it almost certainly has a chain. I personally don't think
there's anything wrong with the timing chain setup as long as it's done
properly. But the rubber used in the original tensioner is poor quality
and falls off...and into the engine. If it does turn out to be the
tensioner, then drop the pan and clean out all the lovely rubber bits
that it disabused itself of. You really don't want any of that in the
oil galleries.
