You've got some pretty good advice so far; the key is masking off the
chrome area and roughing up the rest of the tank with 400 grit wet and
dry sandpaper, then using a good self etching primer. The final
pinstriping around the chrome panel is half on the chrome and half on
the paint; you should mask and sand the chrome in such a way so that you
have a thin sanded strip around the chrome panel for the pinstripe paint
to bite into. I have some photos of some tank prep and striping here:

John Prusnek

 I've been talking to my painter, and he claims that new paints do not stick
well to chrome (Guzzi tanks) due to the lack of lead in modern paints. Anybody
have any input? He wants to use the a chrome contact paper for knee panels and
I think that will look like s**t with a ridge around panel...........thanks
in advance for the input. Brett in Indiana
