It would seem that it depends entirely on the individual inspector at
each station, on any given day. Two friends who are Canadian have
crossed back and forth numerous times over the last decades only to find
everything has changed since 9/11. They each experienced all their stuff
dumped out on the road (by both Canadian and US officials) and left to
clean it up themselves of course.
I was headed to Nova Scotia last summer and changed my mind because of
this issue. I don't carry anything contraband but have shall we say... a
low BS tolerance mixed with a bad temper? Figured I didn't need any more
out of country jail time in my dreams. Ended up in Cleveland instead,
hanging with the likes of Mr. Prusnek & the lovely Suzanne. No hassles,
no searches, no tantrums. I'm too old for that crap. But I'd sure like
to see Scotland someday.
