Hi Tom,
At work I'm surrounded by semis all day. Most are not offensive to me -
the ones that you can tell are poorly maintained or "turned up" for more
power definitely are. Most citybus are marginally maintained as well and
rarely run steadily in their most efficient rev range. The recent
purchase of my old Mercedes diesel has renewed my interest in this
project - even with it's advanced age, the old beast runs quite clean.
I'd much rather follow a diesel than a vehicle with exhaust smelling of
rotten eggs. :-) Guess I've gotten used to diesel "fragrance" after a
stint as a freight railroad conductor and my present job.
The idea is to eventually use an alternative fuel (biodiesel or
processed used vegetable oil) in most of my vehicles. The resulting
exhaust smells mostly of french fries and is better for the environment,
the fuel is biodegradable in the event of a spill and can actually be
better for the engine burning it than dino-diesel. I'm not totally nuts
- there is a logical reason for most of my odd-ball ideas! :-) Cheers,
Charlie.

A diesel, huh? I guess you've never ridden behind a citybus or a semi for long periods of time! Uhg! Maybe when you get it done, I'll follow you around(at a great distance) and when you pass out from the fumes, I'll steal all the nifty parts off your bike!!<G> Charlie Mullendore wrote:
