to paraphrase Pete Roper from the MGNOC
discussion...Gargle!...Froth!.....harump..harummp...(clearing
the throat noises...)
t'aint no neutral...unless you call disengaging the
clutch....neutral...but otherwise it's always "in
gear"...pick hi or low range at a dead stop, and leave
it there...low range is good to 80-85, hi to
105...don't use the clutch like a 5 speed, it's a tiny
125 throw off part...pull clutch, spin throttle 2 or 3
times to slip lose the trans/drive line...then a solid
clunk into the other gear...against all instincts just
let go of the clutch lever...then twist the throttle
for accel...it ain't the normal 5 speed method...you
should be able to hold the bike still with a light
pull of the right front brake...it should creep
forward (a little) when you release said brake...drive
it like Mom's station wagon...just gotta learn to
IGNORE the clutch lever.....

I know this is a Loopframe list, but I think a few of you guys dig the Tontis too. I do have a question regarding the Guzzimatic trans. If I remember right, neutral is located between high and low gear on the gear selector. Is that right? I haven't been able to get mine into neutral yet. I seem to recall that the last one I had around here was also real finicky about selecting neutral. Is there a trick here? One thing about it, you don't really need neutral all that often. Sorry, if I have offended any loop purists ;-) TIA Darrell Dick Imlay City, MI |
