You know, Iraq isnt all that bad. The weather has been fantastic, beautiful skies, warm days and cool nights. More stars than I've seen in many years. Only problem is that my bike is 8000 miles away and I cant work in it.

Actually, life isn't too bad over here as a civilian. We have hot and cold running water, showers and flush toilets. Some or all of these work, just not all at once. The foods pretty good at the mess halls, but I eat about half my meals as MRE's.

I've been at Camp Anaconda, near Balad, Iraq, for about two weeks now. The first couple of weeks were fairly exiting. Several times a night you would hear mortar shells landing somewhere on the base. They's usually stop after the army answered with a 155mm cannon. It's been fairly quiet since then, or else I've just slept through them all. Been really quiet since Ramadan started on the 27th.

All I can say is I'm looking forward to getting back home in a year so I can practice polishing my aluminum bits, broken cables, wiring harnesses, and putting my Ambassador on the road again, finally.

Y'all take er easy,
David Whitmore
