I don't have a Eldo parts manual here but I think I know what you are
talking about. Everyting in the tranny looked good.

Hey Ian,
have you checked the spring and coupling on the input shaft? If you look
at plate #7 and #9 of the ELdo parts book, it shows this part assembled and
exploded. This setup is supposed to lessen the shock transfer between the
engine and transmission.
I wonder if there could be:
-splines are worn/damages
-spring is weak/damaged
-the coupling surfaces are damaged or too much play.
I think the input shafts on the 4spd and 5spds are the same, just that the
4 speeds used bushings and the 5s used roller bearings?(someone correct me
if I'm wrong.
