Cam,
I'm not sure what you mean about no adjustment ring, are you implying
that the only adjustment is down on the trans at the bottom of the
cable? In any case, it shouldn't make much difference.
My impression has always been that loops have a pretty light clutch
pull, unless something is wrong. Yes, you should have lubricated the
cable before installation. I usually saturate them with moly spray and
let them dry out for a while before installing, but a light-weight oil
will work also. Perhaps the biggest thing to do (which is often
overlooked) is to apply a bit of grease on the end barrels of the cable
(not the ferrules, although I usually inject some moly grease into
those) where they connect to the hand lever and the actuator lever. This
is very important to keep the ends of the cable from binding and to
prevent premature failure.
The cable should be routed as straight as possible, UNDER the cylinder
jug, and should be loosely lashed to the frame with the minimum number
of cable ties to do the job.

At the risk of sounding like a girly-man, is there any way to lighten up the clutch handle? Mine is so damn stiff, it eventually hurts to pull. |
