Joe, I'm just up the road in Iowa. When you finish your friend's bike,
I have one in my garage too ; ).
There shouldn't be much, if any, noticable slop in the coupling. Isn't
that the point of having splines there? Good news is that it's the
coupling that's the softest material and will wear out first. More good
news is that- if it's the same size as an eldo- even a later model tonti
frame part will fit. And after all that said, 0.03 doesn't sound like a
lot of wear. It's a cheap part, so your call.

Loopers, I have a buddy (who owns an Ambo with a sidecar attached) who's Sea Bee reserve outfit got called up about a month ago. Right now he's sitting in Kuait pulling Gen Set duty & leaning up against a 50 cal, staring out into the Gulf, watching the cargo ships come and go. Last winter Brent pulled his engine & had another guy rebuild it, but he never got around to re-installing it into the rig. Before he left we made a deal that I would get his rig squared away prior to his return, which looks like it won't be until March 04. So over the past month whenever I get a few moments free, I go over to his garage & do a little work. |
