Hi Rich,
On the original tank for my '69 Ambo someone drilled and tapped the
outlets to 1/4 NPT and was using some sort of house plumbing ball valve.
I found a set of brass adapters at Lowes that converts the 1/4 NPT to
1/8 NPT and will use a pair of fuel valves intended for Briggs &
Stratton industrial engines. I am using them temporarily on a Falcone
and they work just fine - they flow better than the originals, don't
leak and cost only $6.50 each. The valves are plastic, have a red knob
to turn them on and have 90* outlets (with the knob towards the outside
the outlets point towards the center). There is no reserve position of
course - just use the left one and save the right side for reserve. The
B&S part no. is 399517. I can take a digipic of them if you like. The
only bad thing I have noticed so far is the tendency for the Falcone to
head for the front yard of my neighbors and try to cut the grass! Just
kidding! Cheers,
Charlie.
The Ambo basket case I got last spring is back on the road, started for the first time in many years last night! It runs quite well and looks pretty darned good, too. That's the good news. The bad news is that the gas tank on it is borrowed from my Eldo. The threads for the petcock on the Ambo tank were stripped so badly that the petcocks wouldn't seat--anyone know of a way to install some replacement petcocks? Oh, and that 4-speed seems awfully sloppy compared even to the Eldo gearbox. The generator light is also on even though I flashed it. I think these are mainly minor problems and it sure is satisfying to have the Ambo our on the highway again. Rich A |
