Where did the cable snap? Any broken cable that I have ever seen has been
broken at the point where it connects to the lever. If the pin is not
allowed to move inside the lever it strains and breaks.

Having just put new throttle cables on my Ambo this past Saturday, the cup holds a round ball. I rolled the bike out for a ride the other day, hit the starter & twisted the throttle.....snap.
