Learned something new at Mid-Ohio this year......
My buddy Steve ('74 LAPD Eldo) was complaining to me about how his
bike was pinging & was wondering about heat ranges. He said that he had
already retarded the timing with no improvement. He pulled them out to
take a look & showed them to another pal who was camping with us
(Frenchy), who has been a mechanic for 30 years. Frenchy noticed right
away that Steve had used anti-sieze on his plugs, and he said that
anti-seize will screw up the heat transfer between the plug & the head.
Steve stuck in another set of plugs, used, without anti-seize & the
pinging was gone....Motor New!
Just thought I'd pass it along. Might be worth a try if you're
having pinging problems & you are using anti-seize.
