Ian,
As it was described to me, the alternator had to be chucked up in a lathe &
a small amount (about .030") taken off the outside of the case so it would
fit in the bracket that now holds the generator. On my Ambo, I installed an
alternator from a Suburu. I modified the Suburu mounting bracket so I could
hang the alternator from the frame. It only required minor trimming on the
top of the front cover for belt/pulley clearance. The Suburu used a separate
voltage regulator, I would have preferred a single wire(built in voltage
regulator) at the time, but I had just bought the alternator & regulator for
a Suburu GF we had & my son wrecked the car. I recovered the parts before it
went to the junk yard, & used them on the Guzzi.
