seeing we are on this subject, what is the best (and easiest) to remove engine/trans to fix the output shaft seal. my ambo has the same problem and seeing its finally staying warm here in MI i want to get this done as soon as possible. one more ?. does anyone know where i can get the exhaust threads redone ? i know cycle garden does it ,but i was wondering if anybody else can do it. thanks in advance,sam70 ambo/leaking

Most likely the output shaft seal leaking. Unless you have short shocks or carry extremely heavy loads, it's unlikely rear drive lube is finding it's way that far forward.

 - Since I have access to the shift return spring I intend on replacing it.
Assuming that I have the tranny in neutral is there anything that I need to
look out for when I pull the pin that holds the return spring? The 4 Speeds
are nice because they have a little cover plate for the return spring.

I'd mark the position of the shift lever on the back of the tranny in relation to the shift shaft and the shaft to the housing as well. It's probably best NOT to disturb the ecentric pin (slotted head, secured by locknut) on the cover. Keep the shift shaft in position and slide the cover off of it.

 - The shaft (mentioned above) comes out the end of the tranny and it looks
like it is leaking a bit too. I was looking in the parts manual and there
was no indication of a seal. Is there one?

There's no seal on any I have that are disassembled. Someone on the list added one by making a fixture to hold the cover and cutting an o-ring groove. Cheers,
