Hi Ian,
If I'm thinking of the same shims you are, they seem to be to keep the top fork bushing down in place. With everything (snap ring, washer, shims and bushing) assembled, the bushing shouldn't move up and down in the fork lower. I'm no expert by any means, that's just my take on the assembly. Cheers,

Bolts on the cop bikes are threaded at both ends, so you can remove or put on the footboard rails without removing the engine bolts. I think they're the same length front and back. Both are longer than the same for civilian bikes. Don't know about the shims. GF |
