Hi Fred,
I use the stamped steel variety on my '69. My feeling is that the extra support added by them helps keep the headpipe nuts from loosening. However the clamps do move on the headpipe and frame even when kept tight. Could be most people don't use them because the paint on the frame or the chrome on the headpipes will be marred to some degree.
I had an original of the type which clamps around the headpipe and attaches to the frame at the 8mm bolt on the bottom crashbar mounting (part no. 1212 2500 shown in the Oct. '70 edition of the parts manual). Rick Woods made up repros out of stainless steel (Thanks Rick!) and I plan to use them on the '71. I'm not sure why Guzzi stopped using this style - maybe they cracked? Cheers,
Charlie

Hi all, Very close to starting the Eldo. Does no one ever use the chromed steel header to frame tube clamps? I never see them on any bikes. I had mine plated and ame getting ready to put them on and just wondered. Joe Kenny makes some cool aluminum versions. Anyone use them instead? 73 Eldo (T-minus) 78 T3/949 |
