It had to happen. Finally snowed here. Sigh.
At least I got a hunnert miles in on Saturday before the cold weather
hit. The landscape is a bit brown and dead, but the bike was running
well. I managed to get out to Amana (Iowa), then parts north to Stone
City and Anamosa on hwy 1, 151 and the ever-popular E28. Anamosa is
home to J&P cycles, which is probably known to most of you Harley
riders. "J&P Cycles: We are not a Harley Davidson Retailer (TM)". They
do a huge and apparently succesful internet aftermarket business. So
successful that they opened a museum of antique motorcycles. Mostly
Harleys, of course, and a few others. No MG.
Stone City was made famous (well, popular?) by painter Grant Wood, the
same guy who brought you 'American Gothic'.
For a painting, see:http://www.ia.net/~kwradio/stonecty.html
Many of his paintings contain clever jokes; well worth a look.
It's very nice countryside, with gently rolling hills and long slow
turns. Great for a peaceful loop around the countryside, especially
nice earlier in the fall and in the spring.
I'm hoping to get a ride in every month again this year. I admitedly
don't have the constitution that JB has, nor do I have electric, or even
heavy, gloves.
Still, we try to enjoy ourselves.
Can't complain about the bike; she ran like a top the whole way. I'm
still looking for a centerstand, though. Guess I'll be calling Mark and
Josh...
Cheers,
J
