Yup... You just don't want it to wobble in the bore too much or it can leak especially if the rubber plug is old. I usually make sure I've got good tension on the spring just to make sure it seals and then the bore isn't all that important.

The bore is not really so important. The "sealing" takes place with the little rubber disk on the bottom of the plunger.
