Great weekend. Left work Thursday afternoon and rode almost 400 miles
over to Covington, KY to have dinner with a lady friend. Friday morning
I headed south to Knoxville and stopped at Fred Sahms house for some
loopframe brakeshoes. (thanks Fred!!) I went south on US129 then US411
to Georgia and rode by three guys on EV type Guzzis pulling out of a gas
station heading north. Any listees?
I was down in Lake City, FL where I met another woman I used to date
years ago when I lived in Bradenton. She went with me to the AHRMA races
in Jennings, FL Saturday morning where we saw Ken Pitts take his looper
to a 1st place finish. Then Dave Fulkerson on the M G Cycle V7 Sport was
doing well until a little traffic in a tight turn put him down. He was
up in seconds and looked like he tried to push start the bike but with
no luck. Good thing too. Later in the pits, Gordon and I had to repair a
broken rear brake lever, a leaky front brake line, straighten some stuff
and a few other little things involving duct tape and it looked ready to
race for Sunday.
I left Sunday but via phone call, Gordon said that it was anyone's game
for the season finale on points and all rode on Sunday's race. Fulkerson
pulled it off and got it. Nice job on M G Cycle's first racing season.
Gordon can go into more detail on which classes they took.
Sunday, for myself, I pulled out of Lake City on the raT-3 at 7:30am my
time and blasted home. Kicked some serious ass-phalt. Left the sunshine
state at 8am and was in the Chicago city limits by 9:45pm. 10:45pm at my
favorite tavern.
1085 miles in 15hrs,15 minutes. On a really ratty T-3 with 167k on it.
My fuel stops were about 3-4 minutes long, I love pay at the pump. One
was longer when I needed to throw a quart of oil in the leaky pig. A
good tip is to have a gear lube bottle top/tip to screw on the oil
bottle. Makes squirting the oil in the case easy. Keep it all in a
gallon zip-lock and the ammo cans stay clean inside. One soda and one
bag of Georgia pecans was my total food consumption until I got to the
tavern. Then it was left-over cold pizza because the kitchen was closed.
I rarely did more than 10mph over the limit. Sticking to it and lighter
Sunday traffic made it easier.
